I want to love Daredevil

1) Karen stripping off her shirt in front of Matt.  Like, who even DOES that?  She hadn’t even established at that point, as far as we know, whether Matt had any vision at all, and might have been able to see her standing that close to him.  And even if she was assured at that point that he absolutely couldn’t see a thing, that’s still really, really rude.  Like, ‘just let me treat you like you’re not even there because you can’t see’.  And the narrative doesn’t comment on this at all.

2) All the blind people in dark glasses, which I talked about last night.  That’s not a thing I’ve ever seen real blind people do, unless the glasses will actually help them see.  (Actually, it’s kind of funny; my sunglasses are at least as opaque as Matt’s, but whereas his are apparently cosmetic, I need mine to make use of the vision I have, and not get an eye strain headache from being outside for a few minutes.)  Though I suppose in Matt’s case, they probably did that as much so the actor wouldn’t have to spend all his time thinking about not looking at things/making eye contact with people, which he would otherwise naturally do.

2.5) You know what would have solved the problem of Matt’s eyes giving away that the actor is sighted?  …hiring a blind actor!  He wouldn’t look so awkward using his cane, either, if that was the case.  He always seem to hold it below the hand grip, which makes sense if he’s holding it out of the way, e.g. when someone is guiding him, but doesn’t make much sense when he’s actually using it.  And I know he has is radar sense, but I can’t believe he never learned to use a travel cane as a kid, before he learned to sort out his super senses.  Like, the same people who taught him Braille would also have taught him how to use a cane.  But really, have a blind actor.  Give him a sighted stunt double for the fight scenes (I asume the current actor probably has one anyway).  And then you’d have someone that, OMG, acts like a blind guy.  And you give the opportunity to a blind actor to play a character that would be perfect for them; like you can’t tell me a sighted person is better at acting blind than a blind person. 

3) Face touching.  NO, THAT IS NOT A THING.  I mean, that’s kind of rude on the part of the blind person who asks, unless you’re in a relationship, or super good friends, like the kind of relationship where touching isn’t weird.  This is not like the blind equivalent of shaking hands, and Foggy seemed to imply it was?  Again, it’s never something I’ve heard of any actual blind person asking to do.  And someone asking me if I want to touch their face is going to come off as creepy rather than as a nice gesture, just so you know.

4) Matt keeps throwing away his cane?  Well, that’s more funny than really annoying because I can understand why he wouldn’t want it with him when he’s being Daredevil.  But they keep saying how much money they don’t have, and a new white cane is around $35, maybe more because Matt seems to have one of those nice graphite canes.  And now, that isn’t too much, really, I suppose, but that’s got to add up, especially for someone who doesn’t have much money to begin with.  Like, I wonder if every time he throws away his cane, he’s internally thinking, ‘fuck, it’s going to be mac’n’cheese for a week again.’

Okay, I, uh, I think I’m done now. 

I mean, I actually really am enjoying the show over all.  Fisk is so well done.  And Foggy and Matt are adorable together.  Like, watching them lawyering together is just as good as watching Matt be Daredevil.  And the show is good at making me want to watch the next episode to find out what happens next.  Like, it is definitely engaging.

But well, what’s the point of having a blog if I can’t also use it to rant about these little annoyances.
